That’s according to French journalist Loic Tanzi, who claims the Ligue 1 champions made an enquiry over the forward’s availability.

Martial has enjoyed a strong start to the new campaign, bagging as a substitute in United's 4-0 wins over West Ham and Swansea.

But his long-term future has been uncertain with the 21-year-old apparently unhappy with his fringe role under Jose Mourinho last term.

Arsenal and Tottenham have been credited with fleeting interest in securing Martial’s services as they look to bolster their frontlines.

Loic Tanzi revealed on Twitter that Monaco enquired about Anthony Martial's availability

And it seems his old club Monaco would have been willing to offer him a route of Old Trafford as well.

On Twitter, RMC and SFR reporter Tanzi revealed: "Monaco have enquired about Diego Costa, A. Martial and Alexis Sanchez.

"The search for a striker leads to talks with [Kasper] Dolberg."

Anthony Martial has scored twice in two substitute appearances for Manchester United this term

Monaco may be preparing for the loss of teen sensation Kylian Mbappe, who’s been heavily linked with Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain.

Martial, meanwhile, will be hoping to maintain his goalscoring run when United play host to Leicester on Saturday.

Mourinho’s men sit top of the Premier League going into their showdown with Craig Shakespeare’s Foxes.

And they'll want another three points to ensure they go into the first international break top of the pile.
