Rooney was appearing on Sky Sports following his new side Everton’s 1-1 draw with City yesterday (August 21).

The 31-year-old stole the show after scoring the opener – his 200th Premier League goal – and was impressive throughout.

Former team-mate Gary Neville was quick to ask what it meant scoring such a prestigious goal, particularly at the Etihad Stadium.

But – having been a constant thorn in City’s side during his spell with the Red Devils – Rooney had the perfect response.

Wayne Rooney sent Man Utd fans into hysterics with his response to scoring at the Etihad

“What, again?” he simply joked, before adding: “I’m sure the red half of Manchester would have enjoyed that moment as well.”

United fans were quick to comment their pure joy at the answer.

“Exquisite banter from the legend Wayne Rooney,” one wrote.

Another added: “I had zero feelings about Wayne Rooney before the season but now I kind of want him to win the golden boot just for banter purposes.”

Rooney scored his second goal in as many games for Everton

While even a City fan commented: “I hate that I love this banter as a City fan.”

It didn’t all go Rooney’s way during the interview, though.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher couldn’t help but rinse the Everton star with a brilliant question.
