That’s according to the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce, who’s confirmed the Reds had an approach for the England midfielder rejected by the Gunners earlier this summer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has now entered the final 12 months of his current deal at the Emirates.

And Starsport understands that he will inform Arsenal today that he is unwilling to put pen to paper on a new four-year, £125,000-a-week agreement.

Liverpool, along with Chelsea and Manchester City, have been credited with interest in getting Oxlade-Chamberlain on-board.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are said to be keen on Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

And respected journalist Pearce reckons Jurgen Klopp remains keen on securing the 24-year-old’s services.

Speaking on The Redmen TV, Pearce said: "They definitely still want him, if they could get him.

"I think the problem is, they did make an approach to Arsenal, probably was around the start of pre-season. But they were told then: ‘Forget it, he’s not going anywhere.’

"We don’t know whether Arsenal are going to keep to that stance or, the closer we get to next Thursday, whether suddenly they’ll get itchy feet and think they do have to listen to offers rather than risk losing those players for nothing the following summer."

Along with Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arsenal are facing the prospect of potentially losing Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil on free transfers next year.

Away from transfer business, Liverpool and Arsenal go head-to-head at Anfield this Sunday.
