Arsenal have met with Southampton rebel Virgil van Dijk, according to Fox Sports News producer James Dodd.

Van Dijk, who has slapped in a transfer request, in also wanted by Liverpool and Chelsea.

Dodd tweeted: “#AFC have met with Van Dijk & his reps but I'm fairly sure all the big PL clubs have.

“I guess Saints would rather sell to us than Liverpool.”

Saints chairman Ralph Krueger insists Van Dijk will not be sold in this transfer window.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal’s bid to sign Thomas Lemar is off.

The Gunners have been chasing the Monaco winger all summer without striking a deal.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Wenger said: “It’s dead because Monaco have closed the door definitely.

"They are still on cases like Mbappe and Fabinho.

"They’ve already lost Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Bakayoko, so Monaco is at a stage where they have closed the door."

Steve Bruce has admitted he would love to bring Jack Wilshere to Aston Villa.

Wilshere has a year left on his contract and is on the fringes of the Arsenal first team.

He has been linked with a move to Villa Park.

And Villa boss Bruce told talkSPORT: “The Jack Wilshere one – hey, who wouldn’t want Jack Wilshere? But I don’t know whether we’re capable of landing him and let’s not forget he’s only 25.”
