Thomas Lemar wants to join Manchester United

That’s according to Daily Record journalist Duncan Castles who says sources at Monaco have told him the player is still up for sale at the right price.

Arsenal and the Red Devils have been linked with the French wideman this summer but so far he has remained in the principality.

Earlier today Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said that the deal was ‘dead’ as Monaco had pulled down the shutters this summer.

But Castles says that is not what he has been told.

He told the Transfer Window Podcast: “I had a chat with a Monaco contact last night and asked him where things stood.

“He said that the Lemar deal was very much on the table as far as they’re concerned.

“It is a possibility he leaves if the transfer fee they’re looking for of 60m is met.

“The additional bit of information which was interesting was, I asked where he thought Lemar would prefer to go, Arsenal or Manchester United, and he was very clear.

“He said, ‘He wants to go to Manchester United’.

“So that might not be unconnected with Wenger’s statement this morning in that essentially once Manchester United come in head-to-head with Arsenal, the financial power is always going to be with the Old Trafford club.

“And also, in the instance, the attraction of Champions League football at Manchester United is there.

“I’m not saying he’s going to end up at Manchester United but that is still a viable option if they can come to an agreement on a fee before the end of the transfer window.”
