Manchester City star Raheem Sterling is expected to boost the attack

Guardiola reckons front men Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus are low on confidence and missing chances at the moment.

The duo blew a number of openings in Monday night’s frustrating 1-1 draw with Everton at the Etihad.

Now Guardiola is hoping England ace Sterling can chip in with some goals and help inspire those around him to do the same.

Sterling plundered three goals in pre-season as well as a stunning equaliser against the Toffees and Guardiola said: “I’m concerned. We have guys who can score goals and I never will doubt Sergio and Gabriel.

“But you see the game and watch Everton, how many chances did we create?

“They were 11 against 10, but we still had more chances. We had our chances against one of the best defensive teams, because they didn’t concede in the last games.

“We created enough to win the game, even with 10 men, but we weren’t able. It’s a little bit like last season.

“We are going to try to find the chance to be confident. One day it is going to click and we are going to score goals.

“In pre-season last season, Raheem played all the time out wide. This season, since the pre- season game against Real Madrid, in the second half, he has played more as a No.10, behind the striker.

“He is so dangerous in that position. I like him to sit there closer to the middle, because he commits the central defenders and he is so aggressive in the small spaces.

“That is good. He scored a goal. In the last four or five games, he scored a goal per game.

“Hopefully the goal he scored in the last game can help his confidence. Because with a goal, he is confident.

“He can say, ‘I’m going to score a goal’. I hope the guys who score goals can get that.”

Guardiola will be without the suspended Kyle Walker for the trip to Bournemouth today but new signing Benjamin Mendy will travel with the Manchester City squad and could make his debut.
