Shkodran Mustafi: Arsenal are ready to sell the defender for £35m

Mustafi will be sold by the Gunners if they can recoup the £35m they spent to get him from Valencia last summer.

Starsport understands the Germany international hasn’t bonded with some of his team-mates, and a swift exit is now on the cards.

Despite Mustafi being a first-team regular last season, Arsenal are not planning of signing a replacement, The Telegraph claim.

The Gunners have a host of options at the back, with Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers on the books.

Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac can also provide cover.

Arsenal are interested in Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, but won’t launch a bid, The Telegraph add.

No more arrivals are expected before Thursday’s transfer deadline, with Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette the only two signings so far.

Arsene Wenger was coy when quizzed about Mustafi earlier in the week.

He said: “It’s difficult for me to speak about any individual cases because we are now in the final seven days of the transfer market.

“It’s always very difficult to predict what will happen there.

“You have to make quick and sharp decisions, and you cannot plan that and come out in the press conference with how you will respond to any solicitation.”
