Manchester United are continuing to monitor Celtic’s Scotland left-back Kieran Tierney.

But there are no plans to attempt to sign him before the current transfer window closes.

United, as well as Manchester City and Tottenham, will continue to assess Tierney’s development this season.

Chris Smalling is wanted by Leicester - and United boss Jose Mourinho is not targeting a replacement.

The centre-half has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and has several players ahead of him in Mourinho’s plans.

According to The Mirror, Foxes manager Craig Shakespeare is keen on the 27-year-old.

Leicester believe Smalling would be a good partner for Harry Maguire and could sign him before Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will return to action in January and that will mean United are unlikely to sign anyone in the winter window.

The 35-year-old signed a new one-year deal at Old Trafford last week.

Mourinho said: “He will be back in January. When the market is open [in January] and people are spending money, we don't.

“But we get a player who was fundamental for us last season. He comes to give us extra quality in the second half of the season.”
