Liverpool are hopeful of hijacking a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The Blues agreed a £40m deal with Arsenal for the England midfielder yesterday.

However, the Kop remain big fans and have not given up on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s signature.

The 24-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will be available on a free next summer.

But Jurgen Klopp will have to act fast if he is to land the Gunners ace.

The Times say Liverpool are refusing to give up in their interest and are confident of luring him to Anfield.

Stuart Pearce thinks Oxlade-Chamberlain is best suited for a move to Anfield over Stamford Bridge.

He told Sky Sports: “I can see why Arsenal want to keep hold of him but on the other side of that if I think Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain needs a new challenge now.

“I think he needs to hear a new voice from a manager.

“I see a good fit for him at Liverpool, I really do.

“I think the way Liverpool play, slightly more than Chelsea, would suit Chamberlain.

“He's a high-energy player so I think maybe Liverpool would suit him slightly better - but a move, he definitely needs.”
