The ex-Everton man was appearing on The Debate show and it wasn’t long before discussion turned to the Gunners’ dreadful 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday (August 27).

Pundits watching the match were unanimous in their criticism of Arsenal’s performance, with many questioning why Arsene Wenger chose to leave record signing Alexandre Lacazette on the bench.

Neville was one such commentator who was left baffled with the decision.

“They’ve spent big money on him [Lacazette] and they’ve spent big money on Kolasinac – they should have started,” he said.

“I can’t understand why Kolasinac didn’t start.”

A fair point in many people’s eyes except for one crucial thing.

Arsenal didn’t spend “big money” on Kolasinac at all – in fact they signed him on a free transfer from Schalke.

And it wasn’t long before eagle-eyed Gunners fans took to Twitter to point out the mistake.

“Yeah I forgot spending £0 on a player was ‘Big Money’,” one sarcastically wrote. “Good one Phil.”

Another added: “Hey Phil – speak to Gary before opening your mouth. Kolasinac cost us nowt, zilch, no Euro, no pound.”

And a third commented: “They bought him on a free transfer Phil.”
