Leicester are waiting to complete the signing of Adrien Silva

Both Leicester and Sporting Lisbon issued statements yesterday confirming a deal has been struck for the midfielder.

But the Foxes are still waiting for FIFA to rubber-stamp the transfer, that was rushed through in the final moments of the transfer window.

The midlands club were granted a two-hour extension to get the deal done and are confident there will be no final hitches.

The move for Portugal international Silva, 28, hinged on Danny Drinkwater completing a £35m switch to Chelsea.

The deal for the England midfielder’s move to Stamford Bridge wasfinally confirmed in in the early hours of Friday morning but Leicester are still waiting to seal the Silva deal.

A club spokesman stated: “Leicester City can confirm that terms have been agreed with Sporting. The transfer remains subject to international clearance approval.”

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare is confident Riyad Mahrez’s form will be unaffected when he returns from international duty, despite the winger handing in a transfer request.

Mahrez was given permission to leave the Algeria camp ahead of the trip to Zambia in case Leicester received an offer they couldn’t refuse.

But no bid came in and Mahrez is now expected back at the King Power stadium following Algeria’s return clash with Zambia on Tuesday.
