Zinedine Zidane has warned Gareth Bale to get back to his best

The Real Madrid forward, who was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer transfer window, is struggling for form this term.

He was whistled off the pitch by the frustrated Bernabeu crowd in the 2-2 draw against Valencia last month after another sub-par performance.

And head coach Zidane wants Bale back to his best or the Welsh wizard will lose his automatic spot in the team, according to Don Balon.

Bale suffered an injury-hit campaign last term but Real did not miss him too much thanks to the rise of Marco Asensio.

Asensio has carried on his hot form this season, scoring four goals in five appearances.

Starsport understand United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is a long-time admirer of Bale.

Reports in Spain suggest the two clubs agreed on a £90m (€100m) transfer fee.

But, according to Don Balon, Bale refused to make the move.

Bale, who has won three Champions League trophies during his time in Spain, is eager to stay at Real.

He has five years left on his contract at the Bernabeu.
