The former Benfica man is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Red Devils since his £30m move earlier this summer after falling behind Phil Jones and Eric Bailly in the pecking order.

But he showed he has stayed on top form, keeping a clean sheet while providing a wonderful contribution for Eric Berg to fire home.

The 23-year-old sent a perfect through ball 40-yards into the path of Emil Forsberg, who squared the ball for Berg to tap the ball into an empty net.

Footage of the pass made its way onto social media site Reddit yesterday, leaving supporters drooling.

“This. This is what Mourinho saw in him. His passing, and build up,” read one comment.

Another added: “I was so happy when we signed him. Kid has mad potential to be the perfect partner for Bailly once José gets him Prem ready. Might see him develop on a similar pattern to [Ricardo] Carvalho.”

United boss Jose Mourinho promised fans would see Lindelof in action very soon, with the Swede expected to start against Basel next week.

"Eric is playing really well," Mourinho said.

"I have to say Smalling is in very good condition and I have also to say Victor is improving every day.

"So, as you know, against Basel Jones and Eric are both suspended, so against Basel we will play Victor and Smalling and no problem at all.

“The squad is good and the mentality of the players is very good too."
