The France international left PSG in the transfer window and signed for Juventus.

The Italian giants spent £18.2m on Matuidi and tied the 30-year-old down to a three-year contract.

But Juventus were not the only club interested in his services.

According to magazine France Football, United, Arsenal and City were also in the hunt.

It is said neighbours United and City closely followed Matuidi during the window.

And the two Manchester clubs were interested as they each prioritised strengthening their midfields.

Neither, though, made a concrete approach for Matuidi.

United ultimately signed Nemanja Matic for £40m from Chelsea, while City added Monaco star Bernardo Silva to their ranks.

France Football add Arsenal also tracked Matuidi but eventually cooled their interest.

This was apparently due to the Juventus star’s wage demands which the Gunners were unwilling to match.

Arsene Wenger ended up failing to add a midfielder to his squad, as only Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac came in.
