Joleon Lescott says Arsenal need to spend like Man Utd and Man City

That’s the view of Joleon Lescott.

The Gunners spent £52m on Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac this summer.

However, Arsenal missed out on Monaco sensation Thomas Lemar after failing with a late deadline day bid.

The Gunners had a £92m offer accepted by the Ligue 1 champions for the France international, 21.

However, Lemar snubbed a move to Arsenal and decided to stay at Monaco.

And Lescott says Wenger must spend big like his Premier League rivals if the Gunners are to challenge for the title.

“I’m just sure they need to keep up with the likes of Man City and United and just invest,” Lescott said on Sky Sports.

“Stop worrying about what players cost and just look at what they can bring to the team and pay the asking prices for them players.”

Wenger has been vocal about missing out on Lemar, with the Arsenal boss revealing he will return with another bid for the winger.

“Yes, we bid €100m for Lemar but the player wanted to stay in Monaco,” said the Frenchman.

“And yes, we'll come back in for him.”
