The central midfielder has risen through the Bundesliga giants’ academy ranks since joining them as a kid.

And his emergence has seen him tipped to make his senior debut this season, with the 18-year-old already having been invited to train with Heiko Herrlich’s first-team squad.

Akkaynak’s development at Leverkusen has gone hand-in-hand with him making an impression on the international stage.

And he recently moved up to play for Germany at Under-19 level having captained the world champions’ U18 and U17 sides.

Goal reckon Chelsea have scouts monitoring Akkaynak.

And the Blues are not thought to be the only team eyeing him up.

La Liga outfit Barcelona have been watching Akkaynak for more than a year.

While Akkaynak is apparently on Roma’s radar too.

Akkaynak is currently under contract at Leverkusen until 2019.

And the clubs keeping tabs on him are believed to be ready to pounce if an opportunity presents itself.
