The German maestro came in for plenty of criticism following the Gunners’ woeful 4-0 defeat at Anfield before the international break.
While several of the Arsenal players had difficult games, Ozil was put under the spotlight and hit out at his critics early this week.
The 28-year-old said the ex-Arsenal players aiming shots at him should be more supportive during the difficult times.
Arsenal boss Wenger has now called for his club to remain united and hailed his players both past and present.
When asked about Ozil, Wenger said: "Nobody was perfect.
"We have to take a distance from that. We shouldn’t be caught in any animosity.
"We are all grateful for what these players, past and present, have done for the club."
On the Liverpool result, Wenger added: "If you ask me do I suffer from performances like that, it is obvious.
"Unfortunately, it is part of the career and you ideally want your team to perform at the top level.
"You question your decisions and your preparations.
"We have played three games and have 35 to go, and we have the quality to respond."
Ozil and Arsenal will need to bounce back from their loss to Liverpool when they host Bournemouth on Saturday.
