The Napoli midfielder has been linked with a move to England and Spain over the last few years.

However, Hamsik has constantly stayed in Italy, remaining committed to the team he has played for since 2007.

Napoli have also stood firm over a move for their most-prized midfielder but it seems the player has also always wanted to remain a a part of the club.

The Slovakian international has become an icon at the Serie A outfit but the club's inability to challenge the likes of Juventus and Roma may eventually force Hamsik to look for a move abroad.

Marek Hamsik would be faced with the hardest decision if Manchester United came calling

Asked about whether a move to a big club like Manchester United, Bayern Munich or Barcelona would appeal to him, Hamsik told German magazine Kicker: "That’s hard to say. It would surely be the hardest decision in my career.

"Maybe everyone wants to play at these clubs, but I can’t answer that."

And any future United move for the player may also be unsuccessful.

"I think that Napoli is one of the top 10 European teams in terms of gameplay and performance,” added the 30-year-old.

Nemanja Matic's arrival means Manchester United have a competitive midfield at present but Hamsik could be seen as the perfect replacement for Michael Carrick, if he can be persuaded to finally make the switch.
