And that reputation was hardly weakened this summer as The Gunners reportedly missed out on Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.
The club were believed to have seen a £92m bid accepted by the French side, only for the player himself to reject a move to the Emirates.
Lemar is said to be more interested in a move to Liverpool next summer.
