The Brazilian has ended up staying at the Reds, despite intense interest from Barcelona in the summer.

The Catalan club wanted Coutinho to replace Neymar after his record-breaking £198m switch to PSG.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed the 25-year-old will not be included in the Liverpool squad for the trip to Manchester City tomorrow.

But Nicol is convinced the midfielder will soon be back in the starting line-up for the Reds.

“You will find in the next couple of weeks that Klopp will figure a way of getting him in the starting XI, he certainly won’t start at the weekend,” he said on ESPN FC.

“It’s quite easy for Klopp not to start him because attacking-wise Liverpool so far in the Premier League have been nothing short of fantastic.

“He’ll get him in, it’s amazing how things work.

“Somebody will have a little strain, or a little niggle, or they’ll be suspended.

“Something will happen and he’ll get in and the guy is so good that he’ll keep his place.

“All of a sudden he’s in the starting XI.”

Liverpool will look to continue their fine form at the Etihad after beating Arsenal 4-0 before the international break.
