Rashford has become one of the most promising England stars since bursting onto the scene in the 2015/16 and continued his impressive form this season with a lucky goal in United’s 2-2 draw with Stoke.

Liverpool’s 17-year-old starlet Woodburn has also raised eyebrows following his sensational goal on his Wales debut, as well as a clever assist against Moldova last week.

But Ferdinand believes both youngsters have a long way to go until they match the levels of Owen.

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand slammed comparisons between Marcus Rashford and Michael Owen

Speaking on BT Sport, he said: “You can’t compare these young boys to what Michael Owen was doing.

“At the same age as Rashford, he [Owen] had won two golden boots in the Premier League and scored 50 goals, Rashford has 20.

“They’re great young players these boys but people seem to forget and it’s half disrespectful in my eyes.

Liverpool's Ben Woodburn has been hailed by pundits

“Even if you look at the likes of [Kylian] Mbappe. If he’s going for that type of money now, what would he [Owen] be going for?

“People forget too quickly and these guys have a lot to do [to get to those levels].”

It comes just days after TalkSport host Adrian Durham launched a scathing attack on Woodburn for his “enforced Wales pride”.
