Chris Sutton gives his take on Diego Costa's Chelsea situation

That is according to former Blues striker Chris Sutton.

Costa has been exiled in Brazil over the summer, after a dream move back to Atletico Madrid failed to materialise.

Chelsea chief Conte reportedly told the 28-year-old his career at Stamford Bridge was over via text message.

The forward said the Italian had treated him like a ‘criminal’.

And despite being recalled to the club’s 25-man Premier League squad, former Golden Boot winner Sutton believes Costa won’t be seen playing in a Chelsea shirt again.

“I don't think things are going to change,” Sutton told Starsport during an afternoon of filming with BT Sport.

“Conte doesn't want him back and something will give eventually in terms of him going.

“If the manager doesn't want him back, while he can come back and train with the kids, he's not going to get near the first team.”

Costa was left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad, meaning he will not be cup tied if he gets his desired move back to Los Colchoneros.

Diego Costa's Chelsea career appears to be over.

But with the attacker still absent from training, it is clearly unlikely he will be used in any capacity before January.

“I don't think he'll play because of Conte's character,” added Sutton.

“The stuff that he said about him, I don't think there's a way back.

“In some ways, is he cutting his own nose to spite his face? But if Conte feels things have gone so far, which evidently he does, then I would be really surprised.”

Despite Costa’s absence, Chelsea have started the season well.

New addition Alvaro Morata has netted three times so far this term.
