Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has admitted there is an argument for him joining Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho revealed during the summer he considers the Wales superstar a transfer target.

When quizzed about a switch to United, Bale told the Daily Mail: "Be the star but win less? Well there's an argument for that.

"But I think the main thing, when you look back on your career, is that you look at your trophies. In the end that's probably the most important thing."

United may go back in for Bale next summer.

Real Madrid have a number of alternatives in the pipeline in case they fail to sign David De Gea.

The Spanish giants are set to replace Keylor Navas between the sticks at the Bernabeu next year.

But according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, United star and long-term target De Gea is not their only option.

It is said young talents Kepa Arrizabalaga and Gianluigi Donnarumma are also wanted.

Elsewhere, Bernd Leno and Jan Oblak are also admired.

Charlie Nicholas wants Jose Mourinho to start Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial against Basel.

United welcome the Swiss club to Old Trafford tonight (7.45pm) for their Champions League group opener.

And Nicholas told Sky Sports: “I think they'll make a few changes.

“I’d like to see both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford both in the side to really give them electric pace."
