Manchester United failed to continue their perfect run at Stoke on Saturday

That is the verdict of pundit and former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley.

Jose Mourinho’s men failed to make it four wins from four as they were held 2-2 at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday evening.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored twice to grab a point for the Potters.

Tonight's clash with Basel sees United back in Europe's biggest competition for the first time since being knocked out at the group stage back in 2015.

And Burley says Saturday's draw was not the worst result as it will keep the United squad grounded ahead of the tie.

“They drew with Stoke at the weekend, they tinkered with it a bit, it wasn’t their best performance by a long way,” Burley said on ESPN FC.

“It was a good wake-up call defensively for them for Mourinho to say ‘listen, don’t believe the hype of the first three games, we’ve got a lot of work to do’.

And Burley believes United should easily pick up the three points.

“I think we will see a very professional performance at home to Basel. So Man United (will win).

“I don’t think it will be a difficult one.

“I’d be shocked if it wasn’t anything other than a good start.”
