And the France striker hopes to be part of the one that faces Cologne tomorrow night so he can prove it.

Giroud, who snubbed a move to Everton in the summer, is one goal away from hitting 100 for the Gunners.

He said: "It’s a privilege for me to play for Arsenal and to score almost a hundred goals. I hope it happens as quick as it can.

"Of course we have at least two good teams and a lot of competition.

"It’s nice for everybody when we need to be focused and competitive. It keeps focus high and improves our subs.

"Always nice to have good players alongside you and push you forward. Trust me we have a very good team."

Giroud was offered the chance to leave Arsenal after they signed Alex Lacazette.

He said: "It’s true I was close to leaving the club because I said I wanted to stay.

"But after a big reflection with everybody around me like my family and close friends in a supportive way I wanted to stay at the Arsenal and thought the story was not finished at Arsenal.

"The club brought me a lot and I want to give it back, improve and win more trophies. I said to the boss our story is not finished."

Giroud, set to start in a much-changed team ahead of Sunday's clash with Chelsea, wants to win the Europa League.

He said: "I play football to win trophies and be ambitious. It is only the first game. We need to wait. Step by step. We can do it. We want to do it."
