The Senegal international has cemented his place as one of the Reds’ key men since joining them from Southampton last summer.

And he started alongside Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah in Liverpool’s all-star attacking trio when Sevilla visited Anfield in the Champions League last night.

Mane impressed for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they kicked off their group stage campaign with a 2-2 draw.

And, speaking post-match, Carragher revealed just how vital he believes the 25-year-old now is to his former team.

Speaking on Norwegian broadcaster Viasport, Carragher said: "I think he was outstanding.

"We speak a lot about Coutinho coming back but, at this moment, I think this man here [points to Mane] is the most important player for Liverpool."

Liverpool are without Mane for their next three matches after he was sent off against Manchester City last weekend.

And Carragher said he feels gutted about Klopp being unable to select the former RB Salzburg man for Saturday's top flight showdown with Burnley, as well as Premier League and Carabao Cup clashes against Leicester.

Carragher added: "[I’m] disappointed that he’s gonna miss the next three games."

Liverpool sit seventh in the Premier League ahead of Burnley’s trip to Merseyside on Saturday.
