The 15-year old leaves the League Two side having been at the club since the age of seven.

And the youngster will now link up with United’s youth academy.

Coventry academy manager Richard Stevens told the club’s official website: "When a big football club come knocking, and it is the club that Charlie supports, you must let him go and have that experience.

"We did not want to sell him, we did not need a fee for him even though there was a fee involved.

"He has been unbelievable for us, even making his England debut back in August.

"Charlie goes with complete support from me and the rest of the staff from the Academy."

United splashed the cash this summer, spending around £150m.

Jose Mourinho landed Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof, while also bringing Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to Old Trafford after releasing the superstar Swede.

The Red Devils are back in action this Sunday when Mourinho’s men face Everton at Old Trafford.

United have had a fine start to the season, winning three and drawing one of their opening four games.
