Alexis Sanchez looks set to leave Arsenal in the summer

That’s according to former Gunners ace John Hartson who’s backed the Chilean to knuckle down.

Sanchez was on the cusp of a move to Manchester City on deadline day.

However, a move failed to materialise as Arsenal struggled to source a replacement.

Sanchez has now entered the final year of his contract and can leave the club for free in the summer.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus are all expected to be serious suitors.

Hartson, who played 54 games for the north Londoners, says Sanchez needs to put himself in the shop window.

“Remember, he’s playing for his next move,” Hartson told Starsport.

“The boy either sulks for four and a half months – although he doesn’t he seem like a sulker – or he gets over it.

“He knows he’s getting a move now, it’s set in stone, the ball is in his court.

“His contract is running down and he’s not going to sign a new one. He’s got to show a good attitude for his form and own mental state.

“If Pep Guardiola sees his attitude is terrible and he doesn’t perform, I’m not saying he won’t get his move because I still think Pep will come in for him."

Sanchez has established himself as one of Europe’s best forwards since signing from Barcelona 2014.

Despite his contract winding down, Arsenal could have still pocked around £60m by selling their star man to City.

Hartson says Sanchez now needs to give Arsene Wenger total commitment.

“He didn’t sell him on the last day in the face of all the criticism and people saying he’s got to let him go,” Hartson added.

“Also, the financial repercussions – they might have lost £40m or £50m.

“But I just think he has to [perform], it’s really important for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger who’s gone out and made sure he stayed.

“He’s relying on Sanchez to get Arsenal in the top four.

“I think he will get his head down and play to the best of his ability while he’s at Arsenal.”
