The 17-year-old was set to pen his first professional contract last month.

However, The Sun say the midfielder, who is being tracked by Barcelona, is yet to sign the deal.

Gomes could instead leave Old Trafford next summer for a fee in excess of £4m.

The United sensation has one year remaining on his scholarship at the club and other clubs cannot agree a deal with Gomes until the end of the season.

However, The Sun say the Red Devils fear they may lose the teenage sensation.

Gomes made his United debut last season against Crystal Palace in May.

Speaking about the Red Devils starlet, former United ace Clayton Blackmore claimed Gomes was good enough to get in Jose Mourinho’s team last campaign, despite being 15 years old.

Blackmore said: “There is a lad coming through called Angel Gomes, who could play tomorrow. I think he’s that good.

“He’s got an old head on his shoulders as well.

“He’s good enough to be in the first team now but it’s going to take him a year or two before everybody trusts him.

“A lot could happen in those two years, so hopefully he’s going to be still there and play for the first team soon.”
