The Arsenal midfielder star is resigned to running down the last year of his contract at the Emirates.

The Gunners have made no effort to open talks about a new deal with the 25-year-old.

Wilshere was farmed out on loan to Bournemouth last season and was expected to leave the club in the last transfer window.

But the Hammers were put off by Arsenal’s £20m asking price due to Wilshere’s injury record.

The midfielder returned to action for the Gunners on Thursday when boss Arsene Wenger brought him on against Cologne in the 68th minute.

But despite impressing in his cameo, Wenger axed Wilshere again for the 0-0 draw at Chelsea on Sunday, preferring to have rookie Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who has had just two minutes of Premier League experience, on the bench instead.

That snub has sent a clear message to Wilshere that he has no future at Arsenal.

But he hopes to persuade West Ham, who he supported as a boy, to make a January move by impressing in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s German centre-back Shkodran Mustafi claimed the draw at Stamford Bridge - the first time Arsenal have not lost in the league at Chelsea in six years - could be a turning point.

Arsenal could have won the game as Aaron Ramsey hit a post and Alexandre Lacazette blazed the rebound over from close-range.

Mustafi, who saw a second-half header ruled out for offside, said: “We are a team that are willing to learn.

“We have to try and build from something and I think we can build from this performance because we were really well organised when we didn’t have the ball.

“When we had the ball, we played some brilliant one-touch football. I think we can build from this.

“We played against the champions of last season and if you play like this, I think you’ll get a lot of points. We can build from that.”

Danny Welbeck could be sidelined for four weeks with a groin strain.

He will undergo further tests today to confirm the severity of the injury suffered in the draw against Chelsea.

As well as missing Arsenal’s next four games he would also be absent for England’s World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania next month.

Arsene Wenger says Wilshere will feature against Doncaster in the Carabao Cup tomorrow.

"Jack Wilshere is involved," the Gunners boss said.
