That’s the verdict of former Arsenal man Charlie Nicholas, who’s suggested that accolade could go to N’Golo Kante or Thibaut Courtois.

Belgium international Hazard has made four appearances for Chelsea this season with his first start coming against Nottingham Forest last night.

And he underlined his class by laying on two goals as Antonio Conte’s side romped to a comfortable 5-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

Nicholas believes there are moments when Hazard doesn’t have much of an impact on games though.

And he says that’s when the 26-year-old’s team-mates prove they’re more crucial to Chelsea’s success overall.

Asked on Sky Sports News if Kante is Chelsea’s most important player, Nicholas said: "Yes.

"And even the goalkeeper comes into that category for me. The reason is because you can have a quiet time, Hazard can have a quiet time, and the rest of the guys have got to do their jobs.

"Obviously in the US you would say Most Valuable Player, he’s [Hazard] in that category for Chelsea. He’s their best player. He’s a mega talent. And he’s a match-winner for them. But there’s more important players you’d have to fit in.

"After all, we see the response, it was his first start last night of the season. Thankfully he didn’t start against Arsenal last weekend. You can see the importance of the other players, but he is their go-to player."

Hazard, Kante and Courtois are in contention to start for Chelsea when they face Stoke on Saturday.

The Blues beat the Potters twice last term - 4-2 at home and 2-1 at the Bet365 Stadium.
