Slaven Bilic is backing West Ham's fans to give them the edge against Tottenham

Spurs have already dropped seven out of nine points at their temporary Wembley home and appear to prefer life on the road.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have had more joy at stadiums resembling their compact old White Hart Lane ground - but the London Stadium is nothing like that.

West Ham beat Spurs 1-0 there last season having seen off their city rivals by the same scoreline at Upton Park the previous year.

And Bilic reckons the advantages are all with his Hammers side today.

He said: “It is only natural what happened to them. It happened to us in the first part of last season.

“It happens to basically all the clubs who move stadiums. It affects your performances. It may be bad luck in some of those games, but it is a thing we have been talking about.

“Their away game wins were both at grounds that were like White Hart Lane - St James’ Park and especially Goodison Park.

“I remember us playing that game at Upton Park when Michail Antonio scored from a corner. It was a top atmosphere and top ground.

Tottenham are in unfamiliar home territory at Wembley

“When we were talking before the game last season at the Olympic Stadium we were saying no way we are going to get that kind of intimidation for them - but then to be fair we did!

“Both of those games were night games, now it is a very early kick off. But I’m sure that the atmosphere is going to lift us.”

Skipper Mark Noble is set to return to the Premier League fray following injury.

Bilic says no-one would be more up for a derby than the Hammers’ home-grown skipper.

He said: “He is in a special kind of mind. It means a lot to all the players of course, but for him you can really see it, it is a big game.

“He is Mr West Ham and he knows the fans, he knows more than all the other players put together.”

Andy Carroll is set to lead the line against a defence that has conceded just three league goals so far.

The striker will soon be heading into his the final year of his contract and Bilic made it clear what he had to do to earn a new one.

He said: “This is to be fair his season to be fit and to stay fit. Because if we are talking about his contract, the question mark about him is his fitness and how much he is available during the season.”
