Just when they thought they were out of sight, though, a goal from Hammers striker Javier Hernandez was shortly followed by a red card for Spurs wing-back Serge Aurier with 20 minutes still left to play.
They made the advantage count when Cheikhou Kouyate pulled another back for the home side in the 87th minute, meaning Spurs were forced to hang on in a nervy finish to their 3-2 win.
