The 28-year-old is now in the final 12 months of his current deal and has shown no signs he’ll put pen to paper on a new one.

The Gunners were previously desperate to keep hold of the playmaker and were thought to be willing to pay him around £300,000-a-week to stay put.

However, the latest reports from Italy suggest Arsenal have shown a readiness to cut their losses on Ozil, who could walk away from the Emirates on a free transfer at the end of next June.

Calcio Mercato claim Ozil has been touted around to potential buyers from Serie A.

However, the agents involved did not receive positive feedback from the teams they spoke to.

Calcio Mercato specifically say that Inter Milan are not interested in signing Ozil, contrary to reports in England.

The Germany international has apparently never been a target for San Siro chiefs Piero Ausilio and Walter Sabatini.

And his wage demands, which will be in excess of £6m a year if he leaves the Emirates, are deemed to be too high anyway.

The potential for a swap deal involving Inter Milan ace Joao Mario has also been dismissed.

His higher value, Inter’s lack of interest in Ozil and the fact Luciano Spalletti wants the Portuguese to remain among his ranks mean such an agreement won’t be struck.

Mario is said to be unavailable for transfer in January, unless he pushes for a move.
