Harry Kane is ready to take on Real Madrid with Tottenham

Spurs are join top of Champions League Group H with an identical record to the team who have won the competition 12 times, including three of the last four.

But after bagging a treble in the 3-0 victory at Apoel Nicosia on Tuesday, Kane said Spurs had no reason to feel daunted about the prospect of facing Cristiano Ronaldo and Co on October 17.

Asked if he truly believed Spurs could win at the Spanish giants, Kane said: “Definitely - we feel we can beat anyone on our day.

“Of course we know it will be tough but two good teams, an open game probably.

“It will probably come down again to who is more clinical in the final third, hopefully that can be us.

“We are going there to win, not just to get a result, but we will see what happens.”

Kane’s double in Cyprus took him to five Champions League goals this season, making him the competition’s top scorer on the night, one ahead of Ronaldo.

He added: “I’ve never met him but I’m a fan, of course. I’m a fan of great footballers and he is one of the best, especially of my generation.

“Hopefully we can win and maybe score more goals than him but we will see what happens.

“We probably won’t be up against each other much in the game, but it’s always great to play the best in the world.

“They have one of the best defences with Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, players like that. I want to test myself against the best, they have been the best the last few years without a doubt.

“I’m looking forward to it – never been to the Bernabeu, going to be exciting. Want to put in a performance like I have been recently.

“I said at the start of the campaign I wanted to prove myself on the big stage against the big teams.”
