Giroud netted a penalty as the Gunners claimed a 4-2 Europa League win in Belarus.

The Frenchman has had to settle for less game-time this season following the summer arrival of compatriot Alexandre Lacazette and the form of Danny Welbeck.

He had little influence beyond his goal yesterday but has now joined Arsenal’s century club which includes legends such as Thierry Henry, Ian Wright and Cliff Bastin.

Wenger said: "I just congratulated him for his remarkable achievement.

“He is in good company, when you look at the number of goals he's scored.

"It's a remarkable achievement. I congratulated him for that remarkable achievement."

On reaching the impressive landmark, Giroud said: “Yes, I’m very proud of that. It’s been a few weeks.

"To be honest with you I was expecting this goal, but sometimes you shoot without looking at the goal and it goes in, while sometimes you are struggling a little more with bad luck or misfortune.

"I’m glad and I’m happy for myself and hopefully more will come."

As well as Giroud’s penalty, Theo Walcott bagged a brace and Rob Holding also scored as Arsenal made it six points from six in the Europa League.

Wenger’s men now take on Brighton at the Emirates in the Premier League on Sunday lunchtime.
