That is according to Liverpool legend Phil Thompson, who believes the France international has been “absolutely terrific” this season.
Martial has provided five goals and six assists since the start of the campaign, despite starting just four games.
He has frequently made an impact off the bench, highlighting the strength and depth Jose Mourinho has in his squad.
And Thompson thinks the competition for a place in the team is helping bring out the best in Martial.
“Competition for places,” Thompson said on Sky Sports.
“(Marcus) Rashford, Martial, healthy.
“They all want to get out there.
“I’m seeing Martial not just play as well but have a smile on his face, for what (the first time in) 12 months, 18 months.
“He has been absolutely terrific.”
