Antonio Conte's Blues welcomed Manchester City to Stamford Bridge on Saturday knowing a win would put them level on points with the visitors.

But they struggled to get a foothold in the game after Alvaro Morata went off injured and went down 1-0 thanks to Kevin De Bruyne's second-half strike.

The defeat was Chelsea's second at home this season - following the opening weekend loss to Burnley - and it left them fourth in the table on 13 points.

City and Manchester United currently lead the way, having collected 19 points from their opening seven games of the season.

Wilkins, who used to play for and coach Chelsea, says his old side aren't out of the title race though.

On the loss to City, Wilkins told talkSPORT: "It’s one result.

"They drew 0-0 with Arsenal and weren’t very good. Arsenal were better than us on that day.

"We’ve lost against Burnley obviously, we’ve lost again on Saturday.

"But then, we’ve got to play the rest of them again, all away from home.

"You know what Chelsea did to Manchester City last year away from home, they played a fantastic game against them.

"Therefore they’ve got to be in with a chance (of the title).

"The Champions League this year has also kept into their little diaries. It’s not easy to go on all fronts."

Chelsea return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace after the international break.

They're set to be without Morata though, with the Spaniard facing six weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem.
