Alderweireld is understood to be growing frustrated at Spurs, believing he should be earning far more than his current £50,000-a-week.

The Belgian is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs but talks with Tottenham over a new deal have hit the buffers.

The Telegraph claimed recently that Chelsea and Manchester City have been informed about the 28-year-old’s current contract issues.

Spurs will not want to lose their influential star and are expected to hand him a pay rise to push him closer to the top flight’s highest earning defenders.

But Alderweireld says the club are yet to make contact with him over a new deal.

Asked if he had been offered anything by Spurs, he said: "No, I am focused on football.

“The rest, I don't know, we will see about that."

Despite his contract issues at Tottenham, Alderweireld insists he remains fully committed to the club.

He added: “I had a good conversation with the manager.

"I told him I'm focused on football, to keep my game up and help the team. That's all I can do.

“You can see I'm happy there, and I try to help the team, and that's the way I always play football."

Tottenham beat Huddersfield 4-0 last weekend and will be in action against Bournemouth after the international break.
