But it has been further inflamed by the fact that the Blues offered Swansea just £5m for Fernando Llorente this summer.

Swansea unsurprisingly rejected Chelsea’s bid as they deemed it far below his market value at the time.

And the Welsh side were proved right when the Spaniard eventually joined Tottenham Hotspur on transfer deadline day for £11.5m.

Chelsea’s lack of belief in his desired acquisition led Conte to conclude that the club were never serious about signing Llorente.

Conte first asked Chelsea to sign the 32-year-old striker in January.

But the board was reluctant to make a major investment in a player with little resale value, and also had doubts about his mobility.

The former Juventus hitman has played 120 minutes for Spurs this season, but has yet to hit the back of the net.

Morata’s backup striker Michy Batshuayi is set to play a part in Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures.

But Chelsea legend Ray Wilkins is far from convinced that the Belgian has the attributes to prove a success.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Wilkins said: “I still don’t see Batshuayi getting too many starts.

“He hasn’t shown enough for me that he’s a Chelsea centre forward.”

Morata was in fine form for Chelsea before suffering a hamstring injury in their 1-0 Champions League over Atletico Madrid.

But Conte is still unsure as to how long his £65m signing will be out, despite the injury being suffered almost two weeks ago.
