Arsenal favourites to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Martial

Arsenal were linked with a January move for Martial over the weekend as Gunners manager Arsene Wenger looks to replace Alexis Sanchez, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The France international has started just four games across all competitions this term, but has still impressed with five goals and six assists.

And bookmakers Betfair have responded by pricing Arsenal as 8/1 favourites to sign the 22-year-old when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Gunners are just ahead of north London rivals Tottenham, who are at odds of 10/1.

Spurs are long-term admirers of the former Monaco forward, having failed to land him when he switched to United back in 2015.

But Starsport understands United boss Jose Mourinho has no interest in selling Martial anytime soon, especially to Arsenal.

A source told Starsport: "Arsenal have no chance of getting Anthony Martial.

"He is happy at the club and even if he did want to leave, he wouldn't be sold to Arsenal.”

Despite Martial playing just a bit-part role under Mourinho over the past two seasons, the United boss has been full of praise for the young Frenchman.

Last month Mourinho said: "I see a great improvement in the person, in the mood, in the face, in the body language.

"If you want just a word, in the happiness. He's a happy guy, he's working extremely well. He starts matches, he tries to do well.

"I am very pleased with his attitude overall and then it's easier to play well."

United, who are joint-top of the Premier League, are back in action against rivals Liverpool on Saturday (12:30pm).
