Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists his side will be challenging for the title come the end of the season.

The Reds took a point away from their tie with Manchester United on Saturday, in a game which failed to live up to the pre-match hype.

Klopp's men sit nine points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

But the German is adamant Liverpool will be vying for the title at the business end of the season.

“We have to do whatever is necessary and we will be challengers. We will be challengers for the next few years, no problem," he said.

“I am not overly-positive, I am not crazy but I really see we are still good, and that is what I try to push."

Philippe Coutinho's potential move to Barcelona could be off.

Liverpool held firm over their star-man in the summer, fending off numerous bids from the Catalan giants.

And with rumours of future bids incoming for the Brazilian, Liverpool may have been handed a lifeline in the transfer saga.

According to Don Balon, Bayern Munich star and former Barca man Thiago Alcantara has offered himself to his former employers.

The midfielder is reportedly keen to leave Germany and return to his homeland, believing he can be Andres Iniesta's long-term replacement at the Camp Nou.

Joel Matip has heaped praise on Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Spaniard denied the Liverpool man with a brilliant save in Saturday's fixture.

De Gea has been hailed as the best goalkeeper in the world, and Matip admitted the stop was of the highest calibre.

“I have to score, but he saved it really brilliantly," the defender said.

“Opportunities like this we have to use and it was a little bit unlucky and frustrating.”

Matip and his defensive colleagues have received flack for their performances so far this season.
