Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Wembley this weekend on the back of a hard-fought goalless draw against United last Saturday and a stunning 7-0 win at Maribor last night.

Tottenham continued their excellent form by holding Real Madrid to a draw in the Champions League last night and McInally believes Liverpool will have to be at their very best to get anything out of the game.

“This will be their sternest test (of the season so far),” he said.

“I know they were a little disappointed they didn’t edge out Manchester United at the weekend.

“I did the game for Sky, 0-0, and it was an okay 0-0. But I think at the weekend it will be even more of a challenge for Liverpool.

“Scoring seven goals does wonders for your confidence, no question.

“But they are playing a team in Spurs that are quite simply looking as good as they’ve ever done under Pochettino.

“It will be a good game at the weekend. Fingers crossed for Liverpool fans that they take this 7-0 and take it into the weekend and maybe get a couple of goals.

“But I can only see a Spurs win.”

Liverpool have only won once in the Premier League since August but Spurs have struggled since moving to Wembley and only won there for the first time in the league last weekend.

The Reds have been boosted by the news that Sadio Mane could be set for an early return from injury.

The 1-0 win over Bournemouth means Tottenham are currently third in the league, four points clear of eighth-placed Liverpool.

Manchester United face Benfica in the Champins League tonight, bfore travelling to struggling Huddersfield in the league on Saturday.

Tottenham and United face off next weekend at Old Trafford.
