The Gunners took 85 minutes to dispatch of their Serbian opponents yesterday, with a brilliant team-move finished off to perfection by Giroud.

Wilshere kicked off the play with a sublime turn to get away from three opponents.

He then played a quick one-two with Theo Walcott before flicking the ball over defenders for the winger to pass to the Frenchman.

Giroud then shifted his feet and acrobatically fired into the bottom right corner.

While the striker’s finish attracted deserved praise, it was Wilshere’s play that truly grabbed fans’ attention.

“Amazing finish by Giroud but that goal is impossible without Wilshere’s quick feet,” one commented.

Another added: “What a goal that was from Giroud. Wilshere was simply breathtaking in the build-up to that goal.”

While a third wrote: ”The impressive bit about the goal was Wilshere. That Giroud finish was decent but nothing special.”

The England international has made just seven competitive appearances for the Gunners over the past three years after being plagued by injuries.

But such a performance is sure to give Wenger some food for thought.
