Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has always been ruthless in sacking managers when he feels his men have been under-performing.

But Conte insisted he has no fears for his job.

In December 2015, after winning the title the previous season, Jose Mourinho was axed for the second time after picking up just one point out of nine.

Asked if he was worried when his side were 2-1 down to Watford and staring at an unthinkable third straight defeat in the league Conte said: “I am not like the previous managers. I am different.

“It is important to understand this. The club has to judge the work and, honestly, I don’t have this type of worry.

“I am very honest. Anyone who knows me well knows this is the last thought in my mind.

“I trust in my work. I don’t feel this type of pressure.

“In the past, the club decided after two losses or three bad games to sack a manager.

“I don’t think it is the same for every manager. If you ask how much pressure I feel about this, it is zero.”

Conte, aware of the rumours Abramovich could be losing patience, even parted with a cheeky “see you soon” to reporters.

But it could have all been so different if Watford’s Brazilian striker Richarlison had not fluffed two simple chances to put his team deservedly 4-1 up by the 53rd minute.

As it was they had to settle for being just 2-1 ahead after goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Roberto Pereyra.

Pedro bagged Chelsea’s first with Cesar Azpilicueta and two-goal sub Michy Batshuayi’s late efforts making the scoreline far more flattering than it should have been.

The double from Belgium bit-part striker Batshuayi could be a turning point for him, said skipper Gary Cahill.

“I’m sure he feels he’s got things to prove and, as a player, that’s exactly how you respond,” said the centre-back.

“He’s come on and changed the game for us. For strikers it’s all about scoring goals.

“It’s the same for us defenders. I scored eight goals last season and I feel like I can’t get a sniff at the minute.

“As soon as you score one goal you feel like every time you go up you are going to score so I’m sure it’s the same feeling for them.

“Those two goals will do him the world of good.”

Hornets boss Marco Silva was left to rue what might have been.

“We were really unlucky,” he said. “Chelsea were the lucky ones - I think it’s clear for everybody who saw the match here or who watch the match on the TV.

“If we play like this in the future we’ll score. When you have a chance to kill you need to kill the match.”
