Harry Kane 'not bothered' by inability to score for Spurs in August
Harry Kane has insisted that he is not worried by his August goal drought as he waits to become a Tottenham Hotspur centurion.
Striker Kane is yet to score for Spurs in August and was denied by a post against Chelsea in his bid to net his 100th Tottenham career goal.
Tottenham face Burnley at Wembley on Sunday, in what will be their final game of August, but Kane insists he is not counting down the days until September.
Asked about his inability to score in August, Kane said: “It is something that is spoken about a lot, but I am not too bothered by it. I try to play well for the team and play well every game.
“Sometimes the ball does not go in, as it didn’t against Chelsea with one off the post and the few chances I had. It is part of the game, I just need to keep working hard, keep my head down and I am sure the goals will come.”
Having completed last season unbeaten at White Hart Lane, the defeat to Chelsea was the worst possible start for Tottenham at Wembley. Since beating Chelsea in the 2008 League Cup final, Spurs have won just one of 10 games at the national stadium.
Kane said: “It is not the result we wanted, but we can take a lot of positives from the way that we played. We dominated the game and had the better chances first and second half. It is about being clinical. We have to hold our heads high. We played a good game. It was not our day and we have to move on and try to win next week.
“It is a long old season and we have plenty of time and games at Wembley, and we need to keep doing what we are doing. Keep playing the way that we are playing, keep working hard in training and it will come. The Chelsea game, everyone can agree, could have gone the other way easily. It did not. That is football, that is life, you have to get on with it and move on.”
New signing Davinson Sanchez did not join Tottenham in time to be involved against Chelsea and asked whether Spurs need to do more transfer business, Kane said: “That is not my decision. That is the manager and the chairman’s decisions.
“We do what we do. We have a good squad. There are no complaints. We will see what happens in the next couple of weeks. The manager will decide who he wants and we will go from there.
“At most clubs now everyone waits until the last minute to see who they can get and who is the best deal, and it is understandable. Why would teams not do that? In my opinion the transfer window should probably not be open now, but it is what it is.”
