Manchester City are facing late competition from Leicester in their £30m pursuit of West Brom defender Jonny Evans.

Pep Guardiola, the City manager, is prepared to meet Albion’s valuation for the Northern Ireland international and a second bid is expected on Tuesday.

But Leicester are also battling to sign the Albion captain and had an offer worth up to £23m rejected on Monday morning.

Leicester are backing Craig Shakespeare with funds to make one more major signing before the deadline and paying £30m for Evans would be no problem for the club’s ambitious owners.

Evans, 29, is yet to play for West Brom this season after an injury but his future remains uncertain ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Guardiola is still the favourite to sign Evans, however, with the lure of Champions League football a huge advantage over the former title winners.

West Brom getting busy

West Brom are poised to move for Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho if Evans leaves, while there is also interest in Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala.

Leicester have also made an inquiry for Sakho, the France international, but Liverpool are demanding £30m.

Pulis is also targeting Fenerbahce's Josef de Souza and Watford captain Troy Deeney.

Spurs want two more

Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth.

Spurs have agreed a deal for the Argentina under-20 international and Mauricio Pochettino  expects to make another two signings.

Pochettino is also poised to seal the £23m capture of Paris Saint-Germain's Serge Aurier.

Swansea after Bayern Munich talent

Swansea have launched an ambitious bid to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches.

Paul Clement, the Swansea head coach, is making a serious play for Sanches and hopes to complete a surprise deal despite competition from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

Sanches, the Portugal international, has been cleared for a loan move by Carlo Ancelotti after a disappointing debut campaign following his £30m move from Sporting Lisbon.

Swansea are also close to signing Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony and hope to sign PSV Eindhoven defender Santiago Arias.

Jordan Rhodes off again?

Sunderland and Wolves are in a straight fight for Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes, who will be allowed to leave Hillsborough for around £7m.

Norwich after Bristol City defender

Norwich City are making a £3.5m bid for Bristol City centre-half Aden Flint, after conceding 12 goals in five Championship games under new head coach Daniel Farke.

Birmingham making progress

Harry Redknapp is considering a £2m offer for Brentford defender Harlee Dean after signing Chelsea midfielder Jeremie Boga on loan for the season.

Hull close to signing Nouha Dicko

Hull City are poised to sign Wolves striker Nouha Dicko for £3.5m and are close to agreeing a fee with Burton for Jackson Irvine. Burton want over £2m for the Australia international but a deal is set to go through in the next 24 hours.
