Slaven Bilic has been sacked by West Ham after a dismal start to the season left the club in the relegation zone.

Bilic's West Ham have won just two league games this season and have lost three of last four matches at the London Stadium.

Their 4-1 defeat by Liverpool on Saturday left them 18th and in the relegation zone with nine points from 11 games.

The club now have the international break to find and appoint a replacement, with David Moyes among the early front runners to take over, but West Ham are looking to

"Disappointed, but not in the club. I expected it," Bilic said outside the West Ham's training ground after meeting with members of the club's board. "It's a very logical move."

A club statement read: "West Ham United can confirm that Slaven Bilic has today left his position with the club.

"The Chairmen and board of West Ham United would like to place on record their thanks and gratitude to Slaven and his team for their services over the past two-and-a-half years, but believe a change is now necessary in order for the club to move forward positively and in line with their ambition.

"West Ham United can confirm that Bilic’s coaching assistants Nikola Jurcevic, Edin Terzic, Julian Dicks and Miljenko Rak have also left the club with immediate effect.

"The club’s search for a new manager to take West Ham United forward is underway and an announcement regarding Bilic’s successor is expected to be made over the coming days."

Bilic signed a three-year deal in the summer of 2015, leading West Ham to a seventh place finish in his first season and 11th in the last campaign.

Moyes is the overwhelming favourite to replace Bilic. When asked on BeIN Sports yesterday, he admitted he would be keen, adding: "I've always said I want to go back into club management. If the right opportunity comes around, I'll be interested."

Many Twitter users were quick to point out that following Bilic's departure today, Chris Woods remains the only first-team coach left at the club. Woods was also goalkeeping coach under Moyes at Everton.
