Alexis Sanchez

Betting: Alexis Sanchez set for shock Manchester United switch according to the latest odds

The Alexis Sanchez transfer saga feels like it has been running longer than some TV soap operas and it now looks like Manchester United are about to steal the Chile international from under their local rivals' noses.

Heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer window before the deal collapsed due to Arsenal being unable to sign a replacement, the 29-year-old was expected to complete a switch to the Etihad Stadium this month.

On 8 January, Sanchez was as short as 1/5 (1.20) to join the Premier League leaders but it appears United could have made a decisive move in the race to acquire his services while City were locked in a stand-off with the Gunners over the potential fee.

If the move does go through, it will be the second time in 6 months that City have missed out on a key target at the last minute, having seen Dani Alves opt for PSG instead of reuniting with Pep Guardiola earlier in the year.

Paddy Power now make Jose Mourinho's side 1/4 (1.25) shots to bring the player to Old Trafford. City remain in the running according to the market, but are out to 23/10 (3.30) with the same firm.

The bookmakers believe it's really a case of which Manchester club Sanchez chooses, as opposed to remaining at Arsenal being a realistic possibility and that's understandable.

With 6 months left on his contract, it looks as if Wenger has no choice but to cash in on his star man rather than losing him for nothing in the summer despite their dismal form.

It's 10/1 (11.0) that there's a dramatic turnaround and the want away forward is still at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the transfer window.

A shock switch to Liverpool - who ended Manchester City's unbeaten Premier League run in Sunday's 4-3 thriller - is 11/1 (12.0) while Chelsea are available to back at 25/1 (26.0).

Even if they miss out on Sanchez's services, Guardiola's men are still 1/50 (1.02) to seal the Premier League title. If their closest contenders beat Stoke in Monday night's top-flight clash then the leaders will boast a sizeable 12-point advantage and it's difficult to see anything but City crusing to what could be one of four trophies over the next few months.

Paddy Power go 1/2 (1.50) that the Citizens remain unbeaten at home this season while it’s 4/5 (1.80) that they reach 100 points.
