Celtic close in on Dundee duo

Celtic are closing in on a deadline-day swoop for Dundee duo Jack Hendry and Scott Bain, reports the BBC .

The Scottish champions are on the hunt for a goalkeeper following an injury to first-choice shot-stopper Craig Gordon and Bain, who is on loan at Hibernian, has emerged as a target after a move for Motherwell's Scott Carson was rejected.

Hendry, 22, is a defender who counts Wigan Athletic and Partick Thistle among his former clubs.

Leeds United have emerged as favourites to sign Celtic striker Moussa Dembele on transfer deadline day, reports the Daily Express.

The France Under-21 international has been linked with a host of clubs during the January transfer window, with Premier League clubs Brighton and Crystal Palace, while Serie A giants Roma were also surprisingly linked.

However, the Express reports that on the day before deadline day, Leeds had been installed by favourites by some bookmakers.

Motherwell have rejected a £200,000 offer from Celtic for goalkeeper Trevor Carson, according to the Daily Record .

The Bhoys currently only have one fit senior stopper following an injury to Craig Gordon, who has been ruled out for three months. Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in Carson to compete with Dorus de Vries for the starting job while Gordon is out, but saw his opening bid rejected by Motherwell.

Celtic's fellow Scottish Premiership side could be willing to sell, but need the Hoops to increase their offer ahead of the transfer deadline.

Celtic to look at goalkeeper after Gordon blow

Celtic may need to bring a new goalkeeper in during the January transfer window after Craig Gordon suffered an injury blow, Brendan Rodgers has conceded.

Gordon was taken off with a knee injury at half-time during the Bhoys' 1-0 win over Hibernian on Saturday and, with Conor Hazard out on loan at Falkirk , it leaves Rodgers with only one fit senior goalkeeper - Dorus De Vries - in his squad.

"We might need to look at the goalkeeping situation," the Celtic boss  told reporters . "We sent young Conor Hazard out on loan to get experience. I think he could be a very good keeper in the future for us but he needs to get the games. That’s certainly an area we might need to look now.

"Some of the other boys are not too far away in terms of coming back but in terms of what we needed I’m still clear on that and the strength we wanted to get in, come the end of the window. There’s no change there."

Roma are considering a move for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, according to Italian website asromalive.it .

Dembele has been linked with a number of clubs this winter, including Premier League sides Brighton and Crystal Palace, but Roma have now reportedly entered the picture.

The Giallorossi are on the hunt for a replacement for Edin Dzeko, who is nearing a move to Chelsea, and Dembele is deemed to be an attractive candidate.

Griffiths not interested in Swansea move

Leigh Griffiths Celtic vs Rangers

Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths says he is not interested in a transfer to Premier League side Swansea City, and is intent on becoming part of the Parkhead 100 Club.

The 27-year-old has attracted interested from Swansea, West Brom and MLS side Sporting Kansas City, but has no desire to leave the Scottish Premiership. The Scotland international is just four strikes shy of 100 goals for the club in all competitions and admits that reaching that tally is his primary focus.

"I don’t want to leave here," Griffiths told the Scotsman . "It’s a massive club and I love playing for this club. I am focusing on trying to hit that 100-goal mark and won’t be going anywhere.

“There’s been a lot of strikers who have come and gone but I’m still here. It seems I’ve been here longer than I have. But I love this club and don’t want to leave."

Davies backs Rodgers to break transfer record

Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies believes Brendan Rodgers will break the club's £6 million transfer record.

Chris Sutton is the current record signing at Celtic Park, while the £4.5m spent on Oliver Ntcham is the biggest outlay in recent years. However, Davies says that Rodgers could spend over £6m for the right player.

“I think the club will support if it is the right player. Brendan works closely with Peter [Lawwell] and Dermot [Desmond]," Davies told the Evening Times .

“If it is the right player that we all feel is worth that money, and can really take us forward, then I’m sure Brendan would be supported in that. We could just bring players in almost for the sake of it.

“You pay fees, they are not quite right but you are getting your numbers in. But to protect the club and make sure we are doing the right thing for them and the team, we want to make sure it is the right player.

“It has to be quality but it has to be the right player. That’s what Brendan is focusing on, working with the club.”
